why on earth would I want to do that?

There are a million reasons why this is happening now in my life. The shortest and truest answer I can give is that after thirty-seven years I’ve just now felt the confidence to direct my life, rather than let it happen to me. This summer some unforeseen events sent me driving slowly through the western states on my own, stopping and sleeping in the back of the van whenever and wherever I wanted, and it was the most blissful freedom I’d ever felt.

When I got back home I realized I could no longer do my job, and I decided that a) I would pursue architecture, a dream I had given up many years before, and that b) the road to my new life would literally be on the road. That I would get there by uprooting myself; by going nomadic!

    Jeremy,

it’s been quite a minute since you rocked Mr. Black’s grade 6 class with your uke version of the Entertainer.

Glad to see you are still blowing minds. it’s a great project. good luck on your apps and new direction in life.

we just moved again and our journey has been somewhat similar in that we are always realising that investing in a bunch of stuff is somewhat futile in the grand scheme.

If you have reason to make it down to Santa Fe, you are welcome to hang.

    Enjoy!

Thank you for doing this! I will look forward to reading this as often as you post.

My husband and I have also moved away from conventional life, albeit in baby steps. We have moved to the gulf islands and are caretaking a farm to learn about what we can live without and what we can make for ourselves. So far it’s been quite the adventure.

And when we get sick of farming, we have recently purchased a sailboat to live out our nomadic lifestyle as you are doing.

I hope your journey gives you all the freedom and confidence to experience life.

    Best wishes.

    Hi Jeremy,

I stumbled onto your blog somehow through facebook. It’s awesome. I knew a bit of your story, and we’ve talked about your van together, but it’s really cool to have it all laid out like this. Way to go, man! It’s pretty inspiring stuff!
